Yard Work ~ Flower Pictures

Iris, azaleas and annuals... this spring is going by so quickly! I feel behind in my edging and yard work, but I guess if I refuse to work in the rain, then I have limited time doing yard work... I'd much prefer to play in the rain than work in it... The dirt is simply too heavy and clumpy and doesn't cooperate when too wet :)

I love my little sidekick helping me in the yard... She tried to move a bag of mulch for me, but found out quickly that it wasn't possible. A special friend of mine once told me that children step on your toes when they are young and step on your heart when they get older... I hope my heart doesn't get stepped on too much by them :) So far, so good!!

Enjoy the pictures and happy gardening!! xox

Pretty in Pink and Purple

It always happens... at the end of the summer, the annuals kick in and really begin to look gorgeous! After struggling in a cold spring and then settling into a hot summer, they finally take off when the weather cools and the dewy mornings come more frequently. If your petunias get too leggy, you can always pinch them off and they will fill out and bloom for you. I prefer petunias in pots, but have done them along my sidewalk and they do well there, too. Enjoy your annuals, as the frost will be here soon!

Have you started planting your annuals yet? Rule of thumb here in West "by God" Virginia is after Mother's Day. Southern States has a wide variety of vegetable plants and annuals, however, I found out Saturday that they sell the very same brand that WalMart does and of course, WalMart's prices are less expensive. It is raining here today and calling for flash floods in our area. After the last few years of having such dry summers, we truly do welcome the rain... I love cool colors and these purple petunias are one of my favorites. Although the petunias tend to get very leggy by fall, if you remember to pinch them off and keep them shorter, they will bush out more and look nicer longer. Enjoy your day and say a prayer for those that have lost their homes due to the recent tornados across the United States. *keeping them in my prayers*
